It looks like this is turning into a bi-weekly life update. I’ve done a complete 180 from constantly traveling and moving to being back home and not doing much. Honestly, I feel like I don’t have enough to write about every week. That said, I now seem to have plans every weekend from now until the new year, so that should at least keep me on my toes while I figure out how to entertain myself between job applications during the week.
FEELING: Excited - My roommate, Ami, and I are off to Colorado this weekend to visit a friend and explore. I’ve never been before and I am excited for some colder weather and fall colors. San Diego is beautiful, although its been so foggy recently you can’t even see across the street most morning. Plus it also doesn’t really have seasons. After a summer of constantly being on the go, I am ready to head off on another adventure because honestly… I am a bit ~bored~ at home.
READING: So, the whole non-fiction phase didn’t last long. I am not against it, I just haven’t found anything that’s fully peaked my attention. In the meantime, I read One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid based on a recommendation. I’ve liked other books by her and it was a cute, easy, before bed read, so I’d give it a 7/10.
ACHIEVING: I’ve been getting back into running, trying improve my technique and pace before I start half-ironman training again in the new year. Unfortunately, I have been under the weather for the last two weeks - just enough to prevent me from settling into a good routine. Fingers crossed it clears up soon! Despite that hiccup, I successfully ran 5 miles last week and 5.5 miles this week for my long runs so cardiovascularly - I am not as out of shape as I thought. Is it easy? Absolutely not, but I’m managing to push through.
CREATING: Ami and I have another party in the works—Apres Haines, an ’80s Aspen ski-themed party. We’re not having a Halloween party this year for the first time in four years, which is kind of disappointing, but with scheduling conflicts, it was the best decision. We’ve been making trips to Home Depot, constructing and painting decor, and we filmed our party promo video—check it out here.
We’ve also been piecing together our Halloween costumes, which is always a fun time in the Haines Household.
KEEPING UP: I’m still on the job hunt, applying and reaching out to my network as much as possible. I’m still struggling to find a routine that balances job applications (“work”) with everything else (“life”), but I blame my lingering cold for that. I’ve got activities planned pretty much every weekend from now until Christmas, so there’s that to look forward to. I’m working on my travel posts when I can, but wow, I have a lot to say—surprised? Probably not. But at least I’m a fast typer. I’m loving it, though. Writing has become pretty therapeutic and a great way to take short breaks from reading job post after job post.
I am working on figuring out a posting routine so this will be more consistent! Thanks for reading as always.
Lauren, love to read your posts. Hope you find your dream job, Don't settle!
And keep up your posts, they are so fun to read.
